Your Google Business Profile (formerly Google My Business) is the single highest-ROI marketing asset a tree service company can maintain. It's free, it drives calls directly, and it keeps working 24/7 without ongoing ad spend.
Here's how to set it up right.
When someone searches "tree removal near me" or "tree service [your city]," Google shows a map pack — typically 3 local businesses — before any organic results or paid ads.
Getting into that map pack means:
The map pack gets 2–3x more clicks than organic results for local service searches. It's the most valuable real estate in local search, and it's free to compete for.
Go to business.google.com. Search for your business. If it exists (Google auto-creates listings), claim it. If not, create it.
Verification options:
Use your actual service area address. If you work from home and don't want to display your address publicly, you can hide it and set a service area instead.
Incomplete profiles rank lower. Fill in:
Profiles with photos get 42% more direction requests and 35% more website clicks, according to Google's own data.
Photos to upload:
Add a minimum of 15–20 photos. Add new ones monthly — Google rewards active profiles.
Review count and rating are the #1 ranking factors in the map pack. More reviews = higher ranking = more calls.
The most effective way to get reviews:
https://g.page/r/[your_place_id]/review (find your Place ID in your GBP dashboard)Respond to every review — positive and negative. Google rewards businesses that engage. For negative reviews, be professional and offer to make it right offline.
Target: 5 new reviews per month minimum.
GBP has a "Posts" feature — similar to social media posts, but they show in your listing and in search results.
Post types that work:
Posts expire after 7 days. Set a reminder to post once a week. It takes 5 minutes and signals to Google that your profile is active.
Turn on the messaging feature in your GBP dashboard. Homeowners can text you directly from your Google listing without calling. Many younger homeowners prefer this.
Set a welcome message. Respond within 24 hours or your response rate shows on your profile.
Multiple listings: Don't create duplicate listings. If you find duplicate listings of your business, request removal through GBP.
Wrong categories: Using only "Landscaper" misses most tree service searches. Set "Tree Service" as your primary.
Never responding to reviews: Signals inactivity to Google.
No photos: A listing with no photos looks unprofessional and ranks lower.
With a fully optimized profile and consistent review generation:
The GBP is a long game, but the compounding is real. Every review adds to a permanent track record that keeps generating calls indefinitely.
Once your GBP is ranking, you can layer on automated outbound prospecting to double your lead volume. AIO handles that side of the equation.
Stop paying per lead.
AIO generates, calls, qualifies, and books tree estimates on your calendar automatically.
